The Operational Environment

TRADOC G2 Blue Yellow Red Separator

At TRADOC G2, our worldwide mission is to support combatant commands, Special Operations Forces, allies, and the Army's total force. We are the Army's proponent for the Operational Environment (OE).

The OE is a dynamic composite of conditions, circumstances, and influences that shape how military forces are employed and how commanders make critical decisions. It serves as the starting point for:

A Collaborative Effort

TRADOC G2 Blue Yellow Red Separator

TRADOC G2 is an enterprise comprising specialized matrix organizations. Together, we craft a unique OE in partnership with the joint staff, OSD, sister services, intelligence community, academia, DoD labs, industry, think tanks, and our allies.

Real-world Scenarios and Training

TRADOC G2 Blue Yellow Red Separator

We provide real-world scenarios for mission rehearsal exercises and translate the OE into the Decisive Action Training Environment (DATE) for task proficiency training. Located in ODIN, DATE offers thinly veiled real-world intelligence to train any task in the Army Universal Task List.

GLOBAL IMPACT

DATE is used worldwide, from combat training centers to Army schools, including ROTC and Officer Professional Military Education. Our allies have also adopted DATE to build interoperability through training.

TOOLS & SCENERIOS

We deliver tools and scenarios and accredit the use of DATE and the OE army-wide. For instance, we annually accredit the OE at the CTCs, ensuring operational forces face challenging scenarios from potential adversaries.
