The purpose of the design phase is to conceptualize the execution of the event or exercise. Design activities provide the framework and drive the detailed scenario development actions that occur in the develop phase.
Designers must envision relevant problems and anticipate corresponding actions and reactions to conceptualize and event or exercise. This creativity requires designers to have an advanced understanding of the following concepts as the keys to design.
Operational Process. Understanding the training audience’s operational process allows the designer to:
- Identify relevant instructions and warnings of potential actions.
- Anticipate how information will be received, processed, and acted upon.
- Predict the most likely action to be chosen based on the stimulus present.
Training and Readiness Events. Understanding the conditions and event performance steps or event components allows the designer to:
- Construct the conditions for the specific scenario.
- Draft and sequence critical actions and sub-events.
- Focus training to be desired, observable outcomes.
Stimulation. Understanding the concept of event stimulation through the use of all live, virtual, and constructive entities allows the designer to:
- Account for actions.
- Identify scripting requirements.
- Identify shortfalls and gaps.
