This threat template details the expected tactics of a People’s Liberation Army (PLA) heavy combined arms brigade attacking a fortified enemy position.
Operational Structure & Tactics:

The PLA brigade employs a coordinated, multi-pronged attack utilizing the following groups:
• Frontline attack group: Initiates feints and fixes enemy defenses to deceive regarding the main assault’s location.
• Depth attack group: Executes an envelopment against the enemy center, aiming to isolate and force commitment of reserves.
• Firepower strike group: Employs artillery to engage and degrade high-value enemy targets, weakening defenses.
• Thrust maneuver group: Exploits vulnerabilities by flanking the enemy rear.
• Rear area support group: Provides essential logistics and supply support, organized into logistics support and equipment elements.
• Air defense artillery: Provides in-depth air defense, attached to other units for layered protection.

Key Considerations:
• UAS coverage: UAS surveillance extends to the maximum range of organic 122-mm artillery (approximately 20 kilometers) for reconnaissance and targeting.
• Unit spacing: Battalion-sized elements maintain 2-3 kilometer separation, adjusted based on mission variables and visibility. Reduced visibility dictates closer intervals.
• Axis advancement: The main axis of advance leads the supporting axis by approximately 2 kilometers.

This threat template provides a framework for anticipating PLA tactics against fortified positions, enabling effective defensive planning and countermeasures. Understanding these elements is crucial for preparing against a PLA heavy combined arms brigade attack.
